Engaging disengaged young people with education

A public seminar series organised by the University of Oxford Department of Education

You are warmly invited to attend this seminar series. It is the fourth in a series of public seminars, which have brought together ideas from research, practice and policy to discuss problems of current importance. Over the last four years topics have been: Education in Cities; Assessment; and Looked after Children. In the present series we draw on research on pupil disengagement undertaken by researchers from Oxford University Department of Education and the Oxford Law Faculty. Three projects, in a funded programme, are currently examining young people’s digital literacy in and out of school; how schools use the law in the best interests of all students; and how schools address the needs of troubled children. The seminars will draw on these and other related projects undertaken by the research teams. They will run for 90 minutes with three speakers, each taking 15 minutes to address the topic from the perspective of their own practice – as researchers; practitioners who work directly with young people; and shapers of policy and policy implementation. One hour will be given to audience questions and discussion and after each seminar there will be the opportunity to network over drinks and snacks.
