2009

October

We welcome Professor David Andrich from The University of Western Australia who will work at the Centre for a month. (http://www.education.uwa.edu.au/ppl/courses , Pearson Psychometric Laboratory)

We also welcome Maria Teresa Florez from Chile who starts her D.Phil research programme with the Centre.

June

To mark the first anniversary of the opening of the Centre, an anniversary symposium was held in Oxford on 23rd June 2009 to explore Intelligent Systems Approaches to Personalised Learning and Assessment. Speakers included Dr Arthur C. Graesser, The Institute for Intelligent Systems, University of Memphis, Dr Thomas Landauer, Pearson Knowledge Technologies and Professor Emeritus of Psychology, University of Colorado and Dr John de Jong, Pearson Language Tests.

April

An Executive Seminar for Education System Officials was organised with the Hong Kong Examinations and Assessment Authority. This seminar was held in Hong Kong on 27 and 28 April 2009 the main theme was Recognising a Wider Range of Achievement - Alternative Assessment Procedures. Seminar Presenters were Professor Gordon Stanley and Professor Jim Tognolini (OUCEA) and Dr Francis Cheung and Dr Thomas Cheung (HKEAA).

2008

November

The Centre hosted a second invitational roundtable in Oxford to discuss The Future of National Testing in the UK. Over twenty educational professionals and researchers attended.

October

The Oxford University Centre for Educational Assessment hosted an executive seminar on the 6th and 7th of October for education system officials measuring performance where emerging issues on The standards agenda were discussed. Officials from a number of countries attended.

June

The Centre was launched on the 23rd June by Dame Marjorie Scardino (CEO of Pearson Plc.) and Dr John Hood (Vice chancellor).

An invitational roundtable accompanied the launch ceremony entitled Priorities in Educational Assessment which brought together researchers and assessment experts in the UK.
