Research Studentships in Education

The University and the Department make available opportunities for obtaining the following scholarships and studentships:

Clarendon Fund (Non-UK/EU Students)

These are Oxford University bursaries for helping outstanding overseas students financially. There is very strong competition for bursaries issued under the Clarendon Fund and further information can be found here.

ESRC (Economic and Social Research Council) Awards (for UK/EU students)

ESRC studentships are available to strong applicants from UK/EU countries for 1 + 3 (4 years) or + 3 (3 years) study. The studentship covers university fees and living expenses.

The Department is able to make 2 or 3 'quota' awards each year. These are allocated through competition within the Department; you will need a strong academic CV, an impresssive research proposal and a supportive and appropriate supervisory environment (i.e. a suitable supervisor). Applicants interested in being considered for an ESRC award should submit their application to the Graduate Admissions Office by 12 March 2010. The Department will then notify applicants if the application is sufficiently strong, and will interview successful applicants at the end of March.

Early application is strongly recommended.

Work opportunities

The Department of Education endeavours to provide work opportunities for research students once they are enrolled. These opportunities include: work on the departmental/library reception desk, work supporting catering and social events, small scale research work and a very few teaching opportunities.
