Biography

Lynn McAlpine is Director of the Centre for Education in Preparing for Academic Practice; Director of the Learning Institute Research Group; and Professor of Higher Education Development. She is also a Senior Research Fellow in the Department of Education. She was formerly Professor and Director of the Centre for University Teaching and Learning at McGill University, Montreal, Canada, and has received distinguished research awards from both the American Educational Research Association and the Canadian Society for Studies in Higher Education.

Research

At this time, she is carrying out funded research with research teams in the Uk and Canada. Both are documenting the experiences of doctoral students, research staff and new academics. Of particular interest are their changing perceptions of academic identity and academic practice.
