Nicola is a Geography PGCE Curriculum Tutor and also supervises on the MSc in Learning and Teaching.
After completing her PGCE, she went into geography teaching in state secondary schools – the last nine years of which were based at Lord Williams’s School in Thame.
During this time she completed a Post Graduate Diploma in Education at the Department of Education, a Masters in Education with The Open University and has recently completed a Doctorate in Education, also with The OU. During her time teaching geography, Nicola was also a subject tutor for The OU supporting student teachers across England in a wide variety of secondary schools. She held the position of geography mentor for Oxford University PGCE interns, whilst at Lord Williams’s School, and went on to become a curriculum tutor at the Department of Education in 2005.
Other roles have included tutoring on the Reading University PGCE and working as a Brilliant Club tutor.
She is interested in curriculum development and geography pedagogy with current research interests in self-video in learning to teach, student teacher mentoring and the role of tacit knowledge in learning to teach.
