Yusuf Ikbal Oldac is a doctoral student in education at St Edmund Hall, Oxford University. His research interests include internationalisation of higher education, social justice in education, and school effectiveness and improvement.
Yusuf completed his BA degree in Foreign Language Education at Boğaziçi University in Turkey with an honours certificate. Upon the completion of his BA degree, Yusuf started studying for his MSc degree at Middle East Technical University in Turkey. In his master’s thesis, Yusuf examined the relationship between student achievement and a set of school-level variables including distributed leadership, academic optimism, teacher collaboration and enabling school structure in the state-funded schools in Turkey using a multilevel methodology. During his MSc study, Yusuf worked as a full-time research assistant at the Graduate School of Social Sciences, Middle East Technical University. As part of his position, he contributed to several funded research projects on international student mobility and social justice in higher education.
Yusuf is currently conducting a biographical study on student self-formation in international student mobility and the development of perceived contributions to home country as part of his DPhil project. He examines how Turkish internationally mobile students develop human capital, social capital and civic values while studying abroad and how these three may interconnect to their (potential) contributions to Turkey.
Yusuf is a fully funded scholar at Oxford Centre for Islamic Studies. He is a member of the Higher Education, and Comparative and International Education research groups at the University of Oxford. He has a presence on Twitter, LinkedIn, ResearchGate and Academia.
