Learning in and for Interagency Working (LIW)

TLRP   January 2004-December 2007

This multi-disciplinary study of what and how practitioners are learning as they work together to support vulnerable children and young people is co-directed by Anne Edwards at Oxford and Harry Daniels at Bath. Framed by Cultural Historical Activity Theory, it is examining, among other things, the individual and organisational learning involved and is developing understandings of learning at organisational boundaries and ways in which practitioners negotiate their collaborations. The Oxford-based researchers associated with this study are Anne Edwards, Apostol Apostolov and Ioanna Kinti.

The National Evaluation of Early Learning Parent Partnerships (NEELPP)

DCSF    April 2007 – March 2008

This project is a collaboration between OSAT, FELL and the Department of Social Policy at Oxford. OSAT’s contribution is a CHAT-based comparative analysis of the work of the settings which are taking different approaches to support parents as early educators. The researchers associated primarily with this aspect of the study are Anne Edwards, Gill Boag-Munroe and Jan Georgeson.

Expanding Understandings of Inclusion: implications of preventing social exclusion for practices in schools

ESRC       June 2007-September 2008

Recently, the idea of children at risk of social exclusion has led to policies for preventing the social exclusion of children and young people through intervention at the early signs of vulnerability and through multi-professional collaboration. As a result, increased attention is now being paid to engaging schools in preventative work with other agencies because of schools’ ability to reach large populations of children and young people. In this study we are looking at how schools and teachers are working with other professionals in order to disrupt children’s trajectories of social exclusion.  In particular we are interested in the changes in practices and the professional learning involved as teachers undertake this new work. The study is framed by CHAT and is co-directed by Anne Edwards and Ingrid Lunt. Eleni Stamou is the research officer.
