How to apply to become a Visiting Research Fellow:
The Department of Education invites applications from established researchers who would like to pursue research in the Department for short periods of time, often while on sabbatical leave from another university. Fellowships will be for minimum visits of eight weeks. Prior to applying, prospective Fellows will need to gain the support of a full member of the Department who is willing to propose the visiting fellowship.
Applications will need to include (in both electronic and hard copy format) a covering letter, the application form, a full CV, a research plan, and a letter of support from their institution or a letter of reference. Incomplete applications will not be reviewed. If accepted, Visiting Research Fellows will be required to sign an agreement with the university and pay a bench fee of £500 (+ VAT) per term.*
Expectations from the Department
Visiting Research Fellows will usually be very senior researchers who will contribute to the Department's research environment. They will be expected to join a research group during their stay and attend research group seminars, as well as public seminars and other departmental events. They may also be expected to give research seminars.
Provision by the department
Visiting Research Fellows will be entitled to an Oxford University Library Services (OULS) reader card to gain access to university libraries, as well as a university email address to be used during their Fellowship. Interlibrary loans, administrations costs and consumables will not be paid for by the Department. The Department is unable to provide computer hardware or software for Visiting Research Fellows and they are advised to bring their own laptop or suitable alternative.
As the Department has a limited amount of office accommodation at its disposal, prospective Visiting Research Fellows must indicate whether or not they will need dedicated desk space. The acceptance of applications will, in part, be dependent on the availability of desk space..
Deadline
Applications will be reviewed by Research Committee in January, April and October. Applicants will normally be notified of the outcome of the application within four weeks of the deadline.
The deadlines for 2009/10 are:
5th October 2009
4th January 2010
19th April 2010
