Department of Education physics interns

There has been a national shortage of physics teachers for many years, despite various government initiatives.

The OUDE Internship Scheme recruits high calibre interns; there is a good completion rate, and they are keenly sought after as NQTs in schools both locally and nationally, but it is not known how the retention rate of physics interns compares with national trends. I am tracking down physics interns from the last 5 years to find out if they are still teaching and investigate the reasons for their career decisions. The findings from this study will inform future development of the PGCE course, particularly the physics component.
