An in person and online event launching the Canon in Colour resources for all, considering the place of race and empire when thinking and teaching about canonical texts.

About Canon in Colour

Canon in Colour is a set of digital resources that explore how empire, history, and culture have shaped 19th century canonical works, and what this means for how we teach them today. This session responds directly to two key barriers identified in the 2021 Lit in Colour report: teacher confidence and subject knowledge. The resources are designed to give teachers tools and approaches to engage meaningfully with themes such as empire, racism, and representation when teaching compulsory GCSE and A Level texts. The resources include video recordings and written guides for A Christmas Carol and The Sign of the Four.

This is a hybrid event, taking place both in-person and online.
