Developing Core Skills in Teenagers Through Work Experience at Oxford University

Export to calendar

Abstract

An opportunity for University of Oxford staff, teachers and researchers who are already, or have ambitions to run work experience, to discuss best practice in working with teenagers.

Work experience is one of the best ways that current employers can support and nurture the upcoming entrants to higher education and the workplace. A good experience can be transformative for a young person, and help them develop vital workplace skills, as is reflected in current government priorities. A growing number of people across the collegiate University are offering some wonderful work experience opportunities to local schools. This can be hugely rewarding for the University personnel involved. A key challenge is how to design these experiences in such a way as to build not only knowledge in young people, but also to ensure they enjoy their experience and build those all-important workplace skills. If you have already been involved in this discussion through the University Schools working group or are interested to learn from and share your own ideas with colleagues, please join us for this workshop. We will be discussing best practice and co-creating an output for use across the University and beyond.

Please bring your lunch so that we can have a working lunch together.
