Exploring DfE Generative AI Product Safety Standards with AIEOU

Export to calendar

Abstract

An interactive workshop for secondary school students and teachers to explore what the Department for Education’s Generative AI Product Safety Standards mean in practice, and to help shape examples of safe and responsible Generative AI use in schools.

This workshop, organised by AI in Education at Oxford University (AIEOU) in collaboration with University of Oxford Education Deanery, will bring together Year 12 and Year 13 students and secondary school teachers from across Oxfordshire to explore these questions. Through interactive small-group activities, participants will discuss realistic examples of how Generative AI might be used in schools, reflect on the opportunities and potential risks involved, and explore what appropriate safeguards and good practice could look like. The workshop will also provide an opportunity for students and teachers from different schools to exchange ideas, engage with researchers working in this area, and contribute their voices to an important conversation about the safe and responsible use of Generative AI in education. Ideas generated through the workshop will contribute to DfE and AIEOU’s ongoing work on making Generative AI product safety standards meaningful and accessible in educational contexts.
