Abstract

The Oxford Deanery Climate & Nature Collaborative is a three-day professional development series for school teachers. It convenes leading experts, dedicated educators, and practitioners to deepen understanding of the interconnected nature of climate change and our relationship with the natural world. Rooted in the latest research on climate and nature education, the Collaborative is about picking up the pace—accelerating resilience, amplifying hope, and sparking meaningful engagement.

This is intended to be transformational for your teaching. The learning, strategies, and connections forged here are designed to carry forward into your classrooms, schools, and communities—long after the conference ends. By foregrounding both scientific knowledge, emotional awareness, and human-nature connections, the series supports teachers in co-creating practical strategies and inspiring approaches that empower students to envision—and build—constructive futures.

Participants will:

  • Deepen understanding about the complexity and multidimensionality of the climate and nature crisis, its impacts on the world, including student mental health
  • Develop innovative pedagogical approaches focusing on hope and solution-making
  • Collaborate with colleagues to create interdisciplinary lessons, co-design practical guides for climate and net-zero education, and larger initiatives
  • Become part of a professional learning community actively focused on being part of the solution

Each participant will leave with one climate or nature learning experience for their classroom, school, or community that has been conceptualized, trialled, shared, or refined.

This collaborative series is designed around:

  • Multiple inputs from diverse voices and perspectives
  • Reflection and conversation as core learning methods
  • Collaborative development of practical, actionable outcomes
  • Community building for sustained professional support
