Roundtable and networking session: Are we singing in tune?
Export to calendarJoin Dr Cate Hamilton, languages teacher and researcher at the Department of Education, and co-host Rebecca Fisher, CEO of The English Association, to discuss how researchers and teachers can best exchange knowledge about using songs for teaching languages in primary school.
Cate has conducted three research studies from 2020 to 2025, investigating:
- How teachers use songs for various purposes from early years to KS2
- What the evidence base is to support teachers’ practice around using songs for teaching languages
- The effects of singing, chanting and reciting stories on Y3 pupils’ French speaking development
The roundtable will bring together a small group of teachers and researchers to think about how best to share research findings with teachers, and where to begin setting the priorities for future research that reflect teachers’ opinions and interests in the topic of using songs in languages teaching.
There will be tea and cake, and plenty to talk about!
