Using school grounds to support curriculum learning, and skills development in secondary schools

Export to calendar

Abstract

Research is suggesting that school grounds can be a fantastic asset for supporting school priorities: learning, wellbeing, attendance, attainment, skills development, school connectedness, community cohesions and more. But it can be intimidating to contemplate teaching outdoors, particularly since the way in which outdoor experiences are mediated by teachers affects outcomes. If your school has some nice green spaces, or opportunities for developing some, possibly as part of enrolment in the National Education Nature Park, come and hear the latest evidence for the potential benefits for students and school, discuss how to realise the potential, and try out some practical school grounds activities. This event is building on the Doing Brilliant Biology Fieldwork in School Grounds in April 2025, to do more biology, and to include activities for more subjects.
