Listening to Learners: Using Student Voice to Inform Languages Teaching
Export to calendarAbstract
For: Secondary school teachers of modern languages
How do students experience their language lessons—and what can teachers learn from a simple student survey?
This interactive knowledge-exchange event will share early findings from the ESRC-funded RESULT project, which is exploring the use of student perception surveys to support professional learning in secondary languages classrooms across England. Drawing on survey responses from students, alongside interviews with participating teachers, the session will offer a picture of what students value in their lessons, where their experiences differ, and which aspects of classroom practice appear most closely connected to engagement and learning.
The event is designed for modern languages teachers, subject leaders, teacher educators, and others interested in evidence-informed practice. Participants will hear accessible summaries of emerging findings, reflect on how student feedback can complement professional judgement, and discuss the opportunities and challenges of using student voice responsibly.
There will also be space to exchange ideas with colleagues, consider practical ways of gathering and responding to student feedback, and help shape the next stages of the project. Whether or not you have taken part in the research, you are invited to join us and contribute to a collaborative conversation about how student perspectives can inform thoughtful, sustainable improvements in languages teaching. Coffee, tea and lunch is included in the ticket price. Book now.
