Webinar Lunchtime Series: Strengthening Kinship Care: Research and Innovations for Assessment and Group-Based Support Programs

We would warmly like to invite you to a webinar given by Professor Nuria Fuentes-Pelaez, from the Research Group on Socieducative Interventions in Childhood and Youth, in the Department of Research Methods and Diagnosis in Education, Faculty of Education, University of Barcelona.

This presentation will explore kinship care in Spain, highlighting what differentiates it from non-relative foster care. It will also provide evidence and resources aimed at improving the quality of interventions during the socio-educational process. Particular emphasis will be placed on the role of evaluation and support through group-based programs. The session will include findings from recent research and introduce the latest tools being developed by GRISIJ research group called “P+Grupal” to enhance the quality and effectiveness of these interventions.

Biography

Prof. Núria Fuentes Peláez, is a Full Professor in the Department of Methods and Diagnosis in Education at the Faculty of Education, University of Barcelona. She leads the GRISIJ research group, focusing on socio-educational interventions for at-risk children and young people within child protection systems. Her studies contribute to areas such as foster care, adoption, family reunification, and parenting support through group socio-educational programs alongside collaborative research methodologies.

Prof. Fuentes Peláez is actively involved in several esteemed national and international scientific networks, such as EUSARF (European Scientific Association on Residential and Family Care for Children and Adolescents) and is a member of the Executive Board of the Institute of Research in Education (IRE) and the Bioethics Committee of the University of Barcelona.

Her advisory roles extend to prominent consultative bodies such as the Observatory for Children of the Generalitat de Catalunya and the Municipal Welfare Council of the Barcelona City Council. These roles underscore her influence in shaping research and policies related to child protection and socio-educational interventions, demonstrating her commitment to improving outcomes for vulnerable populations through rigorous research and effective practices.
