The Rees Centre is pleased to welcome Dr Clive Diaz who joins the Centre as senior academic leader for research in fostering and education.
At the Centre, Clive’s research will focus on strengthening the evidence base on participation, voice and experiences of fairness in children’s social care and family justice systems.
Clive brings extensive expertise in children’s social care, with a particular focus on children and young people’s participation, parental advocacy, and how national policy is implemented in frontline practice.
He said: “I am very excited to be joining the Rees Centre and look forward to working with excellent colleagues across the Department and the wider University to develop research that improves how children’s social care systems support children and families.”
His work explores how children, parents, and professionals experience decision-making processes within child protection and wider children’s social care systems. He has led a number of research projects examining children’s participation in care reviews, parental advocacy in child protection, and the experiences of families involved with children’s services across the UK and Ireland.
Clive previously worked at Swansea University, where he was Professor of Social Work and led research on decision-making in children’s social care, including work on parental advocacy, participation and child protection processes.
