Courses
The Department of Education offers a range of postgraduate courses in the field of education, as well as opportunities to study for a research degree.
Postgraduate Certificate in Education
This one-year course of professional preparation is for graduates who wish to become secondary school teachers. The course leads both to a Postgraduate Certificate carrying 60 credits at Masters level, and to Qualified Teacher Status. We work in close partnership with local secondary schools in the planning, delivery and evaluation of the course.
Masters degrees
The Department of Education offers a wide range of masters (MSc) degrees. These are mostly full-time, one year courses, although some opportunities exist also for part-time study in some areas.
The full-time only subjects are those under the heading of MSc in Education, which are Comparative and International Education, Higher Education, and e-Learning. The MSc in Educational Research Methodology and the MSc in Applied Linguistics and Second Language Acquisition can be taken both on a full-time and a part-time basis. The MSc in Learning and Teaching is part-time only.
Research degrees in Education
The Department has a number of ESRC quota awards available each year for home/EU students. Six terms of residence in Oxford are required for candidates working for the degrees of DPhil.
Most candidates are full-time but a limited number of part-time places are available to those who live and work locally.
