Join our pioneering international Masters course in Teacher Education to develop science and mathematics teacher educators’ practice whilst ‘on the job’.  The course is designed to be integral to the participants’ day-to-day practice as teacher educators and blends online learning with two residential components in Oxford.  This two-year part time course is a world first, bringing together teacher educators in the UK, EU and internationally.

Who is this course for?

This course provides an Oxford University masters-level qualification for anyone involved in pre-service and in-service teacher education in mathematics and science:

Why Oxford?

  • Oxford is a world leader in mathematics and science teacher education.
  • Outstanding academic credibility, introducing you to research literature and research processes, while maintaining a practical focus related closely to your own work in your context.
  • Extensive expertise and knowledge in the use of English as the medium of instruction in international contexts.

What does this course offer?

All over the world school teachers undergo pre-service teacher education before entering the teaching professional.  Many undergo further in-service teacher education.  Yet what training and education are available to the teacher educators themselves?

There is a significant knowledge and skills base needed to be an effective and inspirational teacher educator.  This ground-breaking course offers significant, innovative and sustained education for new and experienced teacher educators.

The set-up of the course means students are initially registered for the Postgraduate Diploma in Teacher Education in the first instance and transferred onto the MSc in Teacher Education in the second year.  Please see FAQs for further information.

Further information about the course content and structure can be found on the individual web pages.

The MSc in Teacher Education is directed by Dr Ann Childs, who has been involved in science teacher education at the University of Oxford since 1995 and has been developed with senior mathematics and science teacher education specialists.
