Rees Centre Emeritus Professor Harriet Ward is a key member of a team that has received an interdisciplinary award from the Social Sciences Division for their project to promote developmental recovery for infants who have suffered significant harm as a result of adverse childhood experiences.
Led by Professor Jane Barlow with Co-Investigators Dr Ruta Buivydaite and Rees Centre Emeritus Professor Harriet Ward, the interdisciplinary hub has been awarded almost £40,000 by the OUP John Fell Fund.
Jane: “This is a really very exciting opportunity to work with a group of international experts including experts by experience, to improve the long-term life chances of babies who have experienced significant early adversity in their lives, and whose development is typically compromised as a result. We hope to be able to develop some innovative ways of working across a range of sectors including health and social care.”
Harriet: “For some time now Jane and I have been exploring what might be done to facilitate developmental recovery for infants whose life chances have been compromised by adverse early experiences. This award provides the funding we need to take the work to the next stage and bring together experts in the field from across the UK and Europe to develop programmes that could make a real difference to the life chances of these very vulnerable infants.”
