Professor Ewart Keep, director of the SKOPE research centre will be chairing a session at a symposium organised by the Institute for Public Policy Research (IPPR) and funded by the Nuffield Foundation on schooling transitions at age 14.

A new breed of secondary schools, such as UTCs and Studio Schools, requires pupils to move schools and start afresh to engage in a 14-19 phase.  There are major issues concerning the attractiveness and sustainability of this model, and SKOPE has a doctoral researcher (Ashmita Randhawa) exploring the development of Studio Schools.  Speakers at the symposium will include Lord Baker, co-founder of the Baker-Dearing Trust that sponsors UTCs.
