Building on Design Matters? The co-design of guidance on building schools

The aim of this project is to work collaboratively with schools and other key stakeholders to co-design research informed school building guidance.

School design can be problematic and schools which are being rebuilt or newly created are seeking guidance as to how to improve the complex processes of design and construction. Our recent AHRC funded project on post occupancy evaluation (Design Matters?) provides strong evidence of the need for effective collaboration between schools, commissioners, architects and the constructors involved in new build projects. Through a series of knowledge exchange workshops, interviews and consultation, a relevant summative guidance document will be constructed that will support Head teachers, teachers, students, school building commissioners, architects, engineers and building contractors undergoing the school building process.

External project members include, Professor Jill Porter, University of Reading.
