Educating the next generation of teacher educators in Pakistan – innovation through collaboration (hybrid)

This seminar will report on a project supported by the Malala Fund to develop a masters programme in Pakistan to educate the teacher educators. It will include (i) an outline of the key issues and challenges for teacher education in Pakistan (ii) a discussion of the theory of change (iii) the ways the key collaborators worked to develop the programme (iv) ongoing innovation and research and development work emerging from the main project.
Presentation will be followed by Q&A.

Bio
Salma Alam
Durbeen is a non-profit organization, established with the long-term goal of improving public schools in Pakistan. Salma Alam is its Chief Executive Office and has been working in the public education sector of Sindh since 2008, first at the school level and then at government level, while consulting with the World Bank. She holds a Masters in Education Policy from the Harvard Graduate School of Education and qualified as a primary school teacher from the National Institute of Education in Singapore in 2016.
Professor Fauzia Shamim
Professor Fauzia Shamim is the Chief Academic Officer. She was formerly the founder Dean of the Faculty of Liberal Arts and Human Sciences, Ziauddin University, Karachi, Pakistan. She is a founder member and Vice President of the Society of Pakistan English Language Teachers (SPELT) and was Chair of TESOL International’s Research Professional Council, USA (2018-19). Her research interests include context-appropriate pedagogy, teaching English in difficult circumstances, program and curriculum development and evaluation, and Language-in-Education policy including English as medium of instruction.
