30th November 2010 : 00:00 - 00:00

A significant amount of research has been conducted in the areas of teacher beliefs and mathematics knowledge in teaching. While each dimension has been explored separately (typically with a goal of establishing their relationship to teaching practices or student achievement), they have rarely been studied together with a focus on understanding their relationship with one another. How might teacher beliefs be related with mathematics knowledge? How might they influence one another? And, as dimensions that play a critical role in influencing teaching practices in the classroom, what is the dynamic nature of the triad of beliefs, knowledge and practices? This will be a session of participative exploration. Following initial background and context, it will be run as an interactive discussion where various hypotheses are proposed as a discussion points.
