Public discourse often presents academic work as volatile, in part because of rapid organizational change. But higher education organizations may not act as nimbly and strategically as reformers hope and critics fear. Organizational inertia creates both points of stability and instability for academic work.

Drawing on research and perspectives from the United States and Europe, this seminar considers the organizational and social processes at play in shaping the conditions of academic work. Presenters working in political science, sociology, and higher education studies will consider how academic metrics, professional norms, cultural expectations, political processes, and academic mobility relate (or not) to organizational change and academic work.

This webinar is part of the free public seminar programme hosted by the Centre for Global Higher Education (CGHE).
