Understanding school social environments through Social Network Analysis
This seminar presents the potential of social network analysis (SNA) methods for investigating relationships between school members (students, teachers…), and for examining school-level social environments.
SNA, I argue, offers unique tools for measuring and understanding the social make-up of schools and their effects on school members. I present core concepts of SNA research and illustrate their usefulness, namely in a study of social transformation in a school and group music-making programme for students with schooling difficulties.
