The Department has once again been ranked third in the world and first in the UK in the Times Higher Education (THE) Subject Rankings 2026, maintaining its leading position for another consecutive year.

The latest rankings highlight the Department’s continued excellence across Education Studies.

Professor Leon Feinstein, Director of the Department, welcomed the news: “It is hugely rewarding to see the commitment and expertise of our staff reflected in these international rankings. Our Department is a place of intellectual rigour, collaboration, and a shared commitment to advancing education through excellent research and teaching.

“I’m thrilled to see this reflected in this year’s rankings once again.”

The THE Education Studies rankings assess performance across three core areas: Education Studies, Teacher Training, and Academic Studies in Education.

This year’s table includes hundreds of institutions from countries and territories around the world, assessed using a comprehensive set of performance indicators measuring teaching quality, research excellence, and academic impact.
