A former Director of the Rees Centre, Leon previously held positions as the Director of Evidence at the Children’s Commissioner’s Office and Chief Analyst in the Prime Minister’s Delivery Unit in HM Treasury.
He said: “I’m thrilled and honoured to take up this prestigious and important position. I’m passionate about education because it is essential in equipping individuals from all backgrounds with the knowledge, skills, and critical thinking needed to navigate and contribute meaningfully to our complex world.
“It strengthens societies by fostering opportunity, ideas and learning. It drives long-term economic progress and supports our arts and culture. It has the potential to reduce inequality. It is also the site of privilege and division within society.
“Our department is at the forefront of ground-breaking teaching and research in the field of education that recognises both these tensions and opportunities. I look forward to continuing the fantastic work of my predecessor, Professor Victoria Murphy, and leading this special department.”
