I am a fourth-year DPhil candidate at the University of Oxford, investigating shaming practices in low-fee private schools situated in unauthorized colonies of Delhi, India. My ethnographic research employs visual and participatory methods to explore how everyday disciplinary practices influence children’s experiences of schooling and their sense of social belonging.
Prior to my doctoral studies, I co-founded Hum Log Social Design Consultancy, an interdisciplinary collective focused on addressing complex societal issues through human-centered design. My professional experience includes roles as a design researcher where I contributed to projects like Paanch Paar (supported by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and CARE India), and collaborations with the Azim Premji Foundation and National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD)on initiatives related to public health and education.
At Oxford, I have served as a research assistant on multiple projects, including TalkTogether, which examines oral language development among young children in urban poor areas of India, and a study exploring generational differences in the use of gender-inclusive language within medical education. Additionally, I led the successful grant proposal for Mera Aas Pados (My Neighbourhood), an arts-based research project funded by the India Foundation for the Arts.
