Abdirashid Ahmed

About me

Abdirashid Ahmed is an educator, founder and chair of trustees for a non-profit education charity organisation. He is currently pursuing a DPhil in Education at the University of Oxford, Department of Education and is affiliated with Reuben College.

His research explores the role of diaspora in higher education in Somalia. He holds MSc Education in Research Design and Methodology (RDM) from University of Oxford, MA from the Centre for Development and Emergency Practice (CENDEP) at Oxford Brookes University, Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) from University of Bolton, and BA in Business Management from University of Nairobi, Kenya.

He has an extensive experience in education and International Development in the UK and overseas, particularly in Kenya and Somalia. Previously worked as a high school teacher in Dadaab, Kenya, and London, UK, and became a lecturer at a local university in Somalia. Additionally, he has held various roles with International Development agencies, including Program Development, Education Program Coordination, and Monitoring and Evaluation roles.

His research interests include International Development, Education in Emergencies (EiE), Refugee Education, and is keen in exploring intersections between education and development. His interest extends to innovative approaches to improving access, equity, and quality of education for fragile states and societies recovering from conflict.
