Abdirashid Ahmed

About me

Abdirashid Ahmed is an educator, school governor, founder and chair of trustees for a non-profit charity organisation. He is currently pursuing a DPhil in Education at the University of Oxford’s Department of Education and is affiliated with Reuben College.

His research explores the role of Higher Education in community engagement, reconciliation and peacebuilding, civic education and integration of local knowledge. He holds an MSc Education in Research Design and Methodology (RDM) from the University of Oxford, an MA from the Centre for Development and Emergency Practice (CENDEP) at Oxford Brookes University, a Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) from the University of Bolton, and a BA in Business Management from the University of Nairobi, Kenya.

He has an extensive experience in teaching and international development in the UK and overseas, particularly in Kenya, Somalia and other regions in Sub-Saharan Africa. He previously worked as a high school teacher in Dadaab, Kenya, and London, UK, and became a lecturer at a local university in Somalia. Additionally, he has held various roles with International Development agencies, including Program Development, Education Program Coordination, and Monitoring and Evaluation Expert.

His research interests include International Development, Education in Emergencies (EiE), Refugee Education, and is keen in exploring intersections between education, conflict, and peacebuilding. His interest extends to innovative approaches to improving access, equity, and quality of education for fragile states and societies recovering from conflict.
