Danijela Trenkic

Professor of Applied Linguistics

About me

Danijela is a Professor of Applied Linguistics at the University of Oxford. Her research combines experimental and correlational methods and focuses on two areas: language, memory and cognition, particularly in second language learning and use; and language, literacy and academic attainment among university students who use English as an additional language.

She read English Language and Literature at the University of Belgrade before completing an MPhil and PhD in English and Applied Linguistics at the University of Cambridge. Before joining Oxford, she held academic posts at several UK universities, most recently at the University of York, where she was Professor of Second Language Education and research leader of the Centre for Advance Studies in Language and Education.

Danijela has been a visiting scholar at universities in Thailand, Japan and the Netherlands, including Chulalongkorn University in Bangkok, Chuo University in Tokyo, and the Max Planck Institute in Nijmegen. She has served as President of the European Second Language Association, founding editor of the Journal of the European Second Language Association, and an associate editor of The Encyclopaedia of Applied Linguistics.
