About me

Joining the Department of Education in 2023 after teaching English as a second language in primary schools and at a university level for 10 years, Eman completed the MSc in Applied Linguistics and Second Language Acquisition in 2024. Eman also holds an MA from the University of Sheffield in Applied Linguistics and Second Language Acquisition.  Her doctoral research investigates the effectiveness of an edutainment phonics intervention in developing reading skills in primary schools in Bahrain. Eman is also the founder and chairperson of iLearn Academy, an initiative that helped over 7000 students start reading in Arabic and English. Eman is a research assistant at the TalkTogether project, looking at different precursor skills that predict students’ success in Arabic. Eman is also interested in pedagogies for teaching phonics in English and Arabic as a foreign language, particularly in providing language and reading support for marginalised students and refugees.
