About me

Helen M. G. Watt, B.Ed. (Hons I & Medal), PhD, is Professor of Educational Psychology and Convenor of the MOVEicp (Motivation, Engagement and Individual Choice Pathways) Research Network at The University of Sydney. She is also Honorary Research Fellow in the Department of Education at the University of Oxford, Fellow of the American Educational Research Association, and Fellow of the Academy of the Social Sciences in Australia.

Her interests address adolescent motivation and participation, gendered educational and occupational choices especially in STEM, and teacher motivation and development. Her longitudinal programs of research have implications for redressing gender imbalances in STEM fields (www.stepsstudy.org), and supporting career development of beginning teachers (www.fitchoice.org).

Helen has edited 12 books and special issues including the Research Handbook on Gender and STEM (Edward Elgar, in devt.); Teacher motivation (Routledge 2014); Global perspectives on teacher motivation (CUP 2017); Gender and occupational outcomes (APA 2008); and is founder and Convenor of the international Network Gender & STEM (www.genderandSTEM.com).
