Junyi is a Doctoral Student in the Department of Education at the University of Oxford. Her research interests include higher education, student agency and self-formation, as well as global knowledge production and international research collaboration.
Her Masters dissertation, ‘Academic Self-formation through Problem-based Learning: A Case Study of Chinese Undergraduate Students’ Participation in the Dachuang Programme,’ examined how agency and structure interact in shaping student learning. Drawing on her personal experience with the Dachuang Programme, she explored higher education as a transformative process of student academic self-formation.
Professionally, Junyi serves as a part-time consultant with the Youth Programme in the Social and Human Sciences Sector at UNESCO. She has contributed to several key initiatives, including the UNESCO Youth Forum, Youth as Researchers (YAR) initiative, UNESCO Global Youth Grant Scheme (in partnership with SEVENTEEN and Nestlé), and the first UNESCO Global Outlook on Youth Mental Health in Times of Crises. Before joining UNESCO, Junyi worked as a research assistant at the CHEN YIDAN Foundation and the China Center for Urban Development under the National Development and Reform Commission. She also gained professional experience through internships at the Beijing International Film Festival and several education and technology companies.
Prior to her DPhil, Junyi earned an MSc in Education (Higher Education) with Distinction from the University of Oxford, an MA in Translation and Localisation Management with Distinction from the Middlebury Institute of International Studies at Monterey, and a BA in English Translation and Interpreting with First Class Honours from Beijing Foreign Studies University.
