Qian Liu

Doctoral Student | St Antony's College

About me

Qian earned her first Master’s degree from the University of Leicester and has since gained experience in English language teaching, specialising in English as a Second Language (ESL) for adult learners. Over the years, she has also developed expertise as a teacher trainer, working with educators to enhance their pedagogical skills and professional development. As a teacher training manager, she has led professional development initiatives, designed training programs, and mentored teachers to improve instructional effectiveness.

Throughout her career, Qian has worked extensively with newly qualified teachers, helping them transition into the profession and build foundational teaching skills. However, her recent focus has shifted toward enhancing the professional development of in-service and experienced teachers, aiming to refine their teaching practice and pedagogical competence through evidence-based training programs.

She began pursuing her second Master’s degree at the University of Oxford (MSc in Teacher Education) while simultaneously deepening her engagement in teacher training and professional development. Building on this foundation, she later embarked on her PhD research at Oxford, specialising in teacher education and professional development. Her research focuses on enhancing the pedagogical competence of experienced ELT teachers through in-service training.
