Shenghao Lyu (吕盛豪) is a DPhil student in the Department of Education at the University of Oxford. His research interests centre on higher education and doctoral education.
Before joining Oxford, Shenghao completed an MA in Education at University College London and a BA (Hons) in Education Studies at the University of Warwick.
Shenghao’s DPhil research seeks to explore how prospective Chinese doctoral applicants navigate the ‘taoci’ (套磁) process (i.e., the pre-application communications between prospective Chinese doctoral applicants and potential doctoral supervisors) with potential supervisors at UK universities. This study builds on his master’s dissertation, which examined the challenges faced by prospective Chinese doctoral applicants during the pre-application stage of doctoral programmes.
