About me

Xiaoying Irene Wu is a DPhil student in Applied Linguistics.

She completed her MSc in Applied Linguistics and Second Language Acquisition (Distinction) at the University of Oxford, Master in Translation and Interpreting at the Central University of Finance and Economics, and BA in English at Beijing Jiaotong University. Prior to her DPhil study, she worked as a research assistant at the University of Hong Kong.

Her research interests include debate pedagogy, speaking pedagogy, classroom interaction, critical thinking skills, argumentation, English Medium Instruction (EMI) and Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL). She is interested in exploring effective educational approaches to integrate higher-order thinking skills into second language learning.

Currently, she is investigating the effectiveness of debate pedagogy in second language learning and critical thinking skills, focusing on English as a second language or English as a foreign language (ESL/EFL) learners.
