Simon Bayliss, PGCE alumnus and current MLT student has won a Silver Teaching Award for Outstanding New Teacher of the Year in the Pearson Teaching Awards 2015. He teaches science at Oxford Spires Academy.

Simon was shortlisted from thousands of nominations for being an inspirational biology teacher and tutor who builds strong relationships with students, parents and peers.

Speaking to the Oxford Mail about his nomination, Simon said, “Teaching is where my heart lies. It’s about giving students the motivation to unlock what they already have and it’s amazing when you see that spark of passion.”

One of his tutors at OUDE, Philippa Hulme, said, “I am thrilled that Simon has won this prestigious award.  He made the very most of all the opportunities to learn and develop his practice both here at OUDE and in school, and is truly inspiring in the classroom.”

Simon will now join other award winners for a ceremony in the Royal Opera House to be broadcast by the BBC in October.
