Professor Ken Mayhew and Dr Susan James from the ESRC Centre on Skills, Knowledge and Organisational Performance (SKOPE) have been working on a suite of research projects in collaboration with the National Apprenticeship Service and WorldSkills UK.

The research focuses on developing and understanding vocational excellence and highlights many of the excellent aspects of vocational education and training and apprenticeship, particularly in relation to skills competitions, in the UK. This research is timely given the recent publication of the Richards Review of Apprenticeship. Ken and Susan’s work has identified key characteristics for successful participation in vocational training.

Professor Mayhew and Dr James appear in a video about their vocational education research which has been released by the ESRC to coincide with the the publication of the Richards Review. Watch the video.
