About the role
 
The Department of Education is seeking to appoint a Departmental Lecturer in Quantitative Research Methods and English as an Additional Language.  The post-holder will lecture and teach graduate students on the professional programmes offered by the Department of Education, predominantly the MSc Applied Linguistics and Second Language Acquisition (ALSLA), the MSc in Applied Linguistics for Language Teaching (ALLT), the Postgraduate Diploma in English as an Additional Language (EAL) and the Postgraduate diploma in Early Childhood Education. 
 
For this post, the Department wishes to appoint a candidate whose main research and teaching experience is in the area of statistics and EAL.  All academic staff in the Department are expected to be strongly research active and the person appointed will enhance the Department’s REF profile through their publications and research funding. A proven high standard of ability to research and to provide graduate teaching and supervision is expected for an appointment to be made.
The successful applicant will contribute to the teaching, research, and academic administration of the department and engage in advanced study and academic research relevant to learning or teacher learning in secondary schools, drawing on this activity to inform all work related to the above programmes.
 
The successful candidate will hold a relevant PhD/DPhil with post-qualification teaching and research experience related to statistics and quantitative research methods. They will have sufficient specialist knowledge and Proficiency in R programming. They will also have a developed publication record and familiarity with the existing literature and research in the field, evidence of ability to write research proposals, and experience of qualitative/quantitative research and analytical techniques. Ideally, they will have teaching and research experience on content related to statistics and quantitative research methods.

The post is full-time and fixed term, available from 1 September 2025 to 31 August 2027.
