Transnational Academic Mobility to Global South: An Exploratory Study of International Faculty in China

This project investigates the mobility of international academics to China and their engagement with Chinese higher education.

This project examines the international academic mobility to China, with a focus on academics working with long-term or permanent contract at Chinese universities.

The project draws on survey and interview data, involving international academics at a wide range of Chinese universities and from various disciplines. It aims to contribute to the studies on internationalisation and global academic mobility, and further the theoretical (re)framing of the counter-flow of international faculty to non-Euro-American systems. The study also aims to inform and impact academics’ practices and institutional/national policymaking about internationalisation and international staffing.

The project is led by Dr Xin Xu and Dr Giulio Marini (University College London).
