Noticing ourselves noticing: Researching our learning as teacher educators and as researchers

Export to calendar

Abstract

This interactive seminar explores Mason’s Discipline of Noticing as a methodology for practitioners to research their own learning/development in teacher education and professional development. Drawing on Mason’s work and examples from our research in teacher education and teacher educator education, we consider how practices of disciplined noticing can support inquiry into experience, including self-study, collaborative research between teacher educators, and research into the process of learning to become a teacher educator. The emphasis is always on the lived experience of ourselves as practitioners. We explore how noticing, recording, and interrogating moments from practice can make aspects of professional learning and development available for systematic inquiry. The seminar will include opportunities to engage in the practices of disciplined noticing and consider their possibilities for our own development as researchers and/or teacher educators.
