Quality Mentoring in initial teacher education

Export to calendar

Abstract

The role of supervising teachers as mentors for pre-service teachers is a critical component of initial teacher education. While extensive research has identified the dispositions, knowledge, and skills associated with effective mentoring, there remains limited empirical evidence supporting the dimensionality of the construct of quality mentoring.

In this seminar, Associate Professor Hoa Nguyen will provide an overview of the current landscape of teacher education in Australia and share her research on developing a framework for quality mentoring. She will discuss key challenges associated with mentoring pre-service teachers in the Australian context and introduce the Theoretically and Empirically Driven Framework for Quality Mentoring Standards.

Drawing on both theoretical and empirical evidence, the framework provides a robust foundation for conceptualising and defining effective mentoring. It also offers a set of standards that can inform high-quality mentoring practice and support the professional development of supervising teachers in initial teacher education.
