The Importance of Process Writing in Qualitative Research

Export to calendar

Abstract

We often focus on writing as a product not a process; this talk considers the ways in which process writing is important to qualitative research. From research diaries in the initial stages to field notes then into analytic memos and writing as a way to discover argument, we will think about the ways in which writing is an essential part of research. Writing is often also an ego-threatening experience and by using the model of process writing from literacy instruction this talk will offer one way to reduce the stakes of writing.
