International media coverage for PGDip TELUS

The EL Gazette, the international monthly newspaper for English language professionals, features our Post Graduate Diploma in Teaching English Language in University Settings (PGDip TELUS) on the back page of its December 2012 issue.

In a profile interview, the course leader, Dr Catherine Walter, explains how she was easily persuaded to come back into teaching from being primarily a writer of teaching materials. “I missed teaching”, Catherine says. “I love thinking of ways of introducing students to new ideas and seeing them catch the ideas and run with them. I love seeing students develop over time, grow in confidence and become more and more independent in their thinking”.

Of the part-time and distance-delivered TELUS programme, which is now in its second year, Catherine says, “The most surprising thing has been the extent of the common ground between teachers from such widely different backgrounds around the world. The most rewarding thing is seeing the generosity and thoughtfulness of students who support one another intellectually and, in the online chat room, socially as well”.
