The department if delighted to welcome Professor Simon Marginson who joined this week as Professor of Higher Education, in association with Linacre College.
Simon specialises primarily in higher education, and comparative and international education in the context of globalisation, and is one of the world’s most highly cited social science researchers in these fields. He will be responsible for coordinating Higher Education research in the department, including leadership of the Higher Education research group.
Prior to joining the department, Simon was Professor of International Higher Education, UCL Institute of Education. He is also currently Editor-in-Chief of Higher Education, and the Director of the ESRC/HEFCE Centre for Global Higher Education.
Simon’s latest research, available in this newly published report, ‘Staying Ahead – Are International Student Going Down Under?’, sets out a 12-point plan to protect the UK’s higher education sector and includes a call for action and warning to Universities UK that overseas students are beginning to opt for competitor countries.
