Soren Wang is originally from Hong Kong but is currently based in Oxford. Soren’s primary research interests lie in the connections between critical pedagogy, digital technology, and student activism in East Asia. Their theoretical bases proceed from understanding education as, among other things, constituting arenas where the connection between knowledge, politics, and power manifest amidst the various interests of its members, i.e. students, staff, parents, and policymakers. Soren is also interested in explicating the ways in which purposes of education, on a philosophical level, unfold and clash on an empirical level through comparing educational policy and guidelines with actual student practice.
On less dedicated levels, Soren is also interested in critically appraising the proliferation of EdTech and generative AI in education as well as anthropologically studying how youth engage with subcultures digitally.
