Trevor Mutton is Emeritus Professor of Teacher Education at the Department of Education.
He previously taught on a number of different courses, including the Modern Languages PGCE programme, the part-time MSc in Learning and Teaching, the MSc Teacher Education and the MSc Medical Education, as well as supervising doctoral students whose research focuses on aspects of teacher education and teachers’ professional learning.
Trevor worked at the Department of Education from 1997 until 2025, having previously been Head of Modern Languages at one of the Department’s partnership schools. His principal research interests are in the fields of initial teacher education, teacher education partnerships, teacher education policy and teachers’ continued professional learning. He is a member of the Oxford University Teacher Education Research Group (OUTER) and the Subject Pedagogy research group. Trevor is Deputy Editor of the Journal of Education for Teaching and is on the editorial board of two other journals: Teaching Education, and Professional Development in Education. He is also a Visiting Professor at Cardiff Metropolitan University and a member of the ITE Accreditation Board of the Education Workforce Council in Wales.
